The inspiration for Tributary Brewing Co. is the Seacoast landscape, with its winding brooks, fresh and saltwater marshes, and tidal rivers converging into the mighty Piscataqua River. Tributary is passionate about the environment and understands the critical importance of clean water in preserving this special place.

Water is the most vital component in the brewing process, and Tributary is a metaphor for the delicate brewing process. The skill, ingenuity, and creativity, combined with their mission to preserve this way of life, results in small batches of many favorite recipes for traditional, well-balanced, full-bodied beers or crisp lagers.

Sustainable Practices of Tributary Brewing Company:

  • Spent grains from the brewing process are picked up by a local Kittery farmer to feed the heifers at their dairy farm.

  • Wastewater from the brewing process, rich with biological matter, is used by a local produce farmer as compost to enhance the growth of his vegetables.

  • Source from many local and regional suppliers such as Blueberry Bay Farm, The Hop Yard, Blue Ox Malt and Valley Malt.

  • Annual charity beer, Gose made with some seawater harvested from Brave Boat Harbor, to benefit organizations that support the conservation or preservation of clean water such as Kittery Land Trust, Great Works Regional Land Trust, Surfrider Foundation, Wells Reserve at Laudholm Trust, Spruce Creek Association, Maine Farmland Trust and Community Water Justice.

  • Recycle all glass, aluminum, plastic and cardboard used in the production or packaging of our beer.

  • Participate in Maine’s container redemption program.

  • Members of the Brewshed Alliance, Natural Resource Council of Maine.

  • LED lighting throughout Tasting Room and Brewery.

  • Hand dryers in restrooms rather than use of paper towels; and use of glassware rather than plastic cups.
