The Alliance GAzette : June 2016

Shades of Green

For anyone who's been following the Green Alliance over the past several years, there may have been times when you've scratched your head and wondered, "What exactly makes that a green company?"

While we're always on the hunt to showcase truly "green" companies (solar, geothermal, farm-to-table, etc.), the fact remains that the journey toward an environmentally sustainable economy requires all hands on deck. This means that even traditional companies (banks, insurance companies, yoga studios) deserve a seat at the table so long as they are committed to the greater good by reducing the environmental impact of their operations and products, or through partnerships to offset less-than-sustainable components of their business.

In an imperfect world, it is our goal to act as a referee in the quest to reward the companies that have made sustainability a core tenet of their value proposition.  In doing so, we aim to tell the story of our GA business partners in a way that is both compelling and accurate.

That said, we are always willing to listen to our members to hear their thoughts on how we can set standards ever higher on our own path toward continuous improvement. Otherwise put, if you have a gripe, we're all ears to hear you out and consider alternatives to how we're running things. Simply email Mike@GreenAlliance.Biz with your thoughts.

Got Ants? See Tom

For anyone living in southern New Hampshire, this is the time of year that carpenter ants find their way into homes, onto counter tops and on the minds of frustrated homeowners.  Luckily, Tom Pray of Ecotech has a solution with minimal impact on the environment as was highlighted in a recent Seacoast Online article that covered Tom's work on the historic John Paul Jones House in Portsmouth and Centennial Hall in North Hampton.

Amanda Grappone Osmer Leading by Example in the Auto Industry

If you're a radio listener in New Hampshire, you've no doubt heard the familiar voice of Amanda Grappone Osmer explaining her approach to running the family business.

While most 4th generation CEOs may be content with the status quo, Grappone is on a mission to disrupt an industry entrenched in archaic ideals.  From gender and cultural diversity on the sales floor to large capital investments in LEED certification, we are honored to announce Grappone Toyota's recent decision to join the Green Alliance.

7 Days Left to Boost SEAREI's Crowdfunding Campaign!

The Seacoast Renewable Energy Initiative (SEAREI) is seeking crowd-sourced funding for a project to install a solar heating system at the Port City Makerspace, a community based shop that provides tools and work space to members for a low monthly fee.

Using donated solar panels from a previous commercial installation project, SEAREI plans to help train volunteers on how to refurbish and install paneling at the Makerspace.
