News : Solar Power fan Jack Bingham builds a business

In his 2011 State of the Union speech, President Barack Obama declared that by 2035, 80 percent of America's electricity would come from clean energy. Examples include solar, wind and biofuels.

Jack Bingham, 59, is betting on solar. He owns Seacoast Energy Alternatives, a Barrington firm that provides energy conservation strategies to homes and businesses.

Question: What was your first job?

Bingham: My first job was a camp counselor in Augusta, Maine. My second job was an A/V (audiovisual) guy at a New Jersey community college. I grew up in Boonton, N.J.

Q: Did these jobs affect your career path?

Bingham: No. I got an internship with a photographer while at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. I realized, "You could make a living doing this." So for about 25 years, I was a professional photographer.
