This week's tips come from Gateway Taiji, Qigong & Yoga, a Portsmouth studio emphasizing ancient forms of martial arts that seek to balance the physical, psychological and spiritual.

1. Start your morning off on a green foot by investing in a cold drip coffee maker. While they may take a bit more time, these little green wonders require no electricity, meaning you can get your morning jolt of energy without wasting energy.

2. As the temperatures begin to drop, consider placing reflective window film — thin plastic sheets that cost only about $10 per window — on the inside of your panes. Over time, you'll make that money back and more thanks to the heat energy savings.

3. Recycle those old cross-trainers. Instead of tossing them out or leaving them in the attic, donate your old kicks to reuse-a-shoe programs, which can help turn them into tracks, basketball courts and tennis courts.

4. Donate your old exercise videos to the public library.

5. Finally, work to cultivate your own inner sustainability — not to mention a stronger body and clearer mind — by looking onto a taiji, qigong or yoga classes. Millions of practitioners over many centuries can't be wrong.
