News : Green Tips: Wade Landscaping

Jul 22, 2013

This week's tips come from Wade Landscaping, a full-service green-focused landscaping company based in Rollinsford.

1. Compost your yard waste. There are many environmentally friendly fertilizers on the market, but anything that comes in a bag will cost money. Composting, however, costs nothing, and can help you rid your yard of leaves, vegetable matter and grass clippings.

2. Use a rain barrel or cistern to collect rainwater from your roof or gutter system. A 1-inch level of rainfall on 1,000 square feet of roof with eaves and a downspout produces 600 gallons of water. Why not water your plants with it?

3. Use native plants in your landscape plan not just to make your yard look better, but to help create habitats for local wildlife as well.
