At first glance, Jack Bingham’s pine-strewn Barrington property – many of whose conifers reach six stories skyward – would seem less than ideal for a state-of-the-art solar array, what with the dearth of post-autumn sunshine.

Notes Bingham: “The only place on the property that gets full year round sun light is right on top of prime wetland, which raises some issues to say the least.”

Despite some topographical roadblocks, the owner of SEA Solar Store was determined to make it work, even if it meant going through myriad state and local agencies, each of which expressed concerns about how the wetlands might be affected.

“Prime wetlands are a pretty rare thing, so everyone just needed to assure that whatever went in wasn’t going to affect it – and righty so,” recalls Bingham, before adding with a laugh “let’s just say I got some pretty good practice filling out paperwork.”
