News : Advocates: Tactics hurting Great Bay

PORTSMOUTH-Officials from the Conservation Law Foundation and the Rescue Great Bay advocacy group argue that continued objections by the Great Bay Municipal Coalition communities to waste-water treatment plant upgrades fail to “hold any water”.

For more than two years there has been a back-and-forth debate regarding the science the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is using to issue nitrogen discharge permits to wastewater treatment plants in communities along the Great Bay estuary. The debate has been led by the coalition communities of Portsmouth, Exeter, Newmarket, and Dover. The ongoing debate has led to at least one lawsuit and a special Congressional hearing.
