News : Helping business, green jobs on agenda

An open house is slated tomorrow to discuss policies President Obama has advocated to help small businesses and to talk about energy independence. Small-business owners and other citizens who would like to learn more about the president's plan to help grow the local green economy are invited to attend the event, which will host a speaker from the national Obama campaign.

The small-business forum takes place at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, at the offices of the Green Alliance, 75 Congress St, Suite 304, in downtown Portsmouth.

It's cliché to say the "stakes are high" in the coming presidential election. But they are. And conventional wisdom says business owners should stay out of politics. But how then does a business owner decide to participate in the political process?

The Oct. 1 event is one way.
