PORTSMOUTH — Kate the Great, a Russian Imperial Stout first brewed in 2005 by Portsmouth Brewery Brewmaster Tod Mott, and ranked No. 2 in the world and best beer in America by Beer Advocate Magazine in 2006 will return once again March 5.

Announcement of the sale of scratch tickets to get a chance to purchase a bottle of the beer may happen at any moment. Beer lovers are directed to Portsmouth Brewery's Facebook page to find word on the start of ticket sales.

In past years, “Kate Mania” has prompted long lines for bottles and for the beer on tap and last year Gov. John Lynch declared March 7, 2011, the official Kate the Great Day, recognizing the impact of the stout and the role of the Portsmouth Brewery as a unique beer ambassador for the state.
