Mark Stebbins is a principal owner and developer of the downtown Marriott Residence Inn and Portsmouth Harbor Events & Conference Center that opened in May 2010. He spoke with Business Monday about the value of LEED certification.

The hotel and conference center are certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. What is LEED?

Stebbins: It's a green building process that substantially reduces the negative impact of building construction by utilizing high-performance construction and operating practices. The added benefit is reduced operating costs. It also enhances building marketability, increases workers' productivity and supports a healthier building environment for the occupants.
