News : Green-thinking businesses benefit from Alliance

Being green can make you more green and the Green Alliance is here to help.

The Green Alliance was created by Kittery, Maine, resident and environmental activist Sarah Brown less than a year ago as a way for small business to increase their profits and become more sustainable. The two are not mutually exclusive, according to Brown, and the 35 members that are part of the alliance are seeing the benefit.

“We are not designed just for the greenest businesses,” Brown told the Downtown Business Association Wednesday. “We are really open to any business that has even just started going down the road of offering greener products or changing business practices to become more sustainable.”
The Green Alliance is open to all businesses and includes a comprehensive evaluation of the business and report card. Brown said, in addition to teaching businesses new way to be green, the process often shows the business owner ways they are being sustainable without knowing.
