May 03 - Checking Out Spring-Time Creatures

Pull on your rubber boots and come celebrate spring by listening to the sound of peepers and watching the vernal pools for signs of tadpoles. All are welcome! Bring family and friends and discover the wonders and importance of the outdoors. The Kittery Land Trust is hosting this even from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on May 3.

May 03 - Stonyfield Organic Earth Day 5K

Green Alliance will be participating in the Green Fair during the event. Located next to the Stoneyfield Visitors Center, the fair will feature wholsome foods for the family, a free race for children, childrens activites, live music from The Dusty Gray Band, face painting and more! The Earth Day Fair is FREE and open to the public. There will also be a four tent beer garden for adults. Frank FM 106.3 will be broadcasting from the event live!

May 03 - Great Works Chiropractic & Wellness Spring Extravaganza

May 04 - Get it Going Beach Clean Up at Sawyer's Beach

Sawyer's Beach in Rye, NH

Get it Going & Portsmouth High School’s Peer Leadership group have teamed up to clean local beaches and they're just in time for summer! In an effort to help Big Blue, Get it Going and the Peer Leadership group are picking up trash off the shore in order to avoid potential ocean pollution. Anyone interested can come to Sawyer's Beach in Rye on Sunday, May 4 starting at 9:30 a.m. Please bring gloves for track pick up and sand savvy shoes for walking on the beach. Help make the ocean clean up a big success by joining in on the fun! Local businesses like Flatbread Company Hampton have generously donated to the cause. Get it Going has had guidance from Blue Ocean Society of the Green Alliance and Surfrider Foundation NH Chapter. May 05 - Kindergarten Open House

Acorn is a nonprofit school for kindergarten and preschool students. The programs offered are nature oriented, environmentally progressive, and give the opportunity for outdoor classroom and walking nearby nature trails. The Acorn School will be hosting an Informational Open House for incoming Kindergarten students for the 2014-2015 school year. This will be on Monday, May 5 from 7-7:30 PM.

May 05 - Raising Dough Event: Team Hope to Cure

Ten percent of the evening's proceeds will benefit Team Hope to Cure. Team Hope to Cure is a group of people participating in the upcoming Relay for Life event. One of the team members, Eileen, recently lost her dad to cancer and wants to raise money to help other families battling cancer. May 10 - Presentation on Energy Alternatives and Solutions

Come to the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center at 9:30 a.m. on May 10th to learn about alternative energy sources for your home. Two speakers from Green Alliance businesses, Ultra Geothermal and ReVision Energy, will be there to discuss the benefits of geothermal and solar PV in households. If you're interested about adding these forms of renewable energy into your life, it would be helpful to listen in on this presentation. The speakers will talk about the various ways to decrease NET energy usage in residential homes. May 10 - 2014 Komen New Hampshire Race for the Cure

Breast Cancer affects 1 in every 8 women. Help raise money to support the women in your life who suffer from this disease by signing up for the 2014 Komen New Hampshire Race for the Cure. On May 10, join the Green Alliance in a 5K run/wak alongside Strawberry Banke. The Green Alliance is proud to be a crystal sponsor for this event. A fun run for kids under the age of 12 is going to take place simultaneously. The kids' 50 yard dash starts at 9:45 a.m. A survivor tent, kids tent and sponsorship tent will open up at 7:30 a.m. The hospitality tent will be distributing free Panera Bread bagels to participants. Most of the proceeds go towards the funding of breast cancer screening, education and treatment programs. The remainder of the proceeds will help support nationwide research projects through the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grant Program. To register for the race, please click here. May 17 - Kittery Odyssey of the Mind Mania

Shapleigh School in Kittery, Maine

Come have some fun at the Shapleigh School in Kittery on May 17th to raise money for Kittery Odyssey of the Mind. There will be fun activities for all ages including a bounce house, inflatable slide, games, and raffles. A giant game of musical chairs will be played for a chance to win a Go Pro Camera donated by Kittery Trading Post. Tickets for musical chairs are $10 and all ticket holders will be entered into a raffle to win other great prizes such as Oakley sunglasses and tickets to the Portland Sea Dogs. All proceeds of this event support Kittery’s Odyssey of the Mind Program and the 6th grade team traveling to the World Finals in Iowa.

May 17 - Recycling Electronics Sustainably

Do you have electronics sitting around your house that are unusable? Most people do. Fortunately, Green Alliance business partner, MetalWave, Inc. can recycle them for you in a sustainable manner. MetalWave is hosting a recycling event on Saturday May 17, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m at the Hampton Fire Station on Winnacunnet Road. Everyone attending is encouraged to bring electronics that are on their last life to be recycled in a green manner.

May 17 - Great Bay Stewards Fundraising Dinner

Many people use what Great Bay has to offer. However, few people realize the important role it plays in the community. It is for this reason that Great Bay Stewards are having a dinner fundraiser at The Country View Restaurant. The Stewards realizes that it takes the entire community, made up of individuals, local businesses, and non-profits, to keep the Bay clean and keep education and research programs successful. A percentage of the proceeds for the evening go towards the Stewards, so stop by for dinner and show your support for Great Bay!

May 18 - Annual Kittery Fire Association 5k Run & Walk

The eighth annual Kittery Fire Association 5k Run & Walk is a chance to enjoy the spring weather by running, jogging, or walking through the scenic Kittery coastline in support of Kittery's volunteer firefighers. All ages and species are welcome to participate! There will be prizes, raffles, as well as a free Kids Run at 10 a.m. Post-race raffle items include gift cards to Kittery Trading Post and Portsmouth Spa, movie vouchers to The Music Hall, and some Green Alliance membership cards too!

May 19 - Local Solutions: Northeast Climate Change Preparedness Conference

This three-day conference will be held on May 19-21 at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester. This regional conference will be hosted by Antioch University of New England. It is designed for local planners and decision makers. Speakers will be educating attendees on how they can prepare for severe weather and climate impacts. They will also discuss how to build health and resiliency into community plans. They will utilize hands-on and interactive techniques that will teach participants how to build community support, effectively use government in responding to climate change, network with schools and leaders to solve problems, and much more. May 21 - Whaleback Environmental Film Festival

Come participate in the fourth annual Whaleback Environmental Film Festival and watch screenings of insightful and inspiring environmentally themed films!  The Red Eft project has created an event that incorporates relevant environmental topics into a fun filled evening of documentaries and opportunities to meet the filmmakers.  This year there will be a showing of "The Right Whale: Urbanizes," a short film on threats to the North Atlantic Right Whale.  Following the first video there will be a longer documentary called "Volunteer," sharing Mariah Wilson's volunteering experiences and how individuals can affect global change.  The Whaleback Environmental Film Festival is free and open to the public so come learn answers to questions such as how to approach an angry fifteen foot python!

May 23 - Showing of "Dirt! The Movie"

Support Traip Academy’s eco-sustainability project and join them for a showing of "Dirt! The Movie." The award winning film shares the importance of dirt and how it is an essential driver of many ecosystems. The event is free and open to the public.  It will take place at the Kittery Community Center’s Star Theatre, the same location as the first two community movie nights. Following the film there will be time for discussion and opportunities to learn more about the project and ways to get involved. May 27 - Acorn School Community Night and Fundraiser

Come support the Acorn School with some delicious pizza and frozen yogurt. The Acorn School, an amazing and one of a kind nonproft pre-K and Kindergarden school that embraces learning in the natural world, is working with Flatbread Pizza and Orange Leaf to bring a fundraiser the whole community can delight in!

Start off the night at Flatbread Pizza where you can enjoy some local and healthy food with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. A portion of the pizza sales will go towards the Acord School, including take out! So even if you cant stay, make sure to get a pizza to go. Then, for dessert, make your way to Orange Leaf for some frozen yogurt and have 15% of sales donated to Acorn School.

May 28 - Kittery Community Market Opening Day

 Come join Kittery Community Market as they celebrate the beginning of their second season with Start Your Garden Day.  Local farmers will be offering a great variety of seedlings along with their expert knowledge on gardening.  In addition, Shapleigh Middle School's Green team will be selling seedlings that have begun to sprout in their school green house.  The money that they raise will be used to support the groups gardening efforts at the middle school.  This fun filled event will include live entertainment by Seasmoke and Gardening demonstrations by Rachel Wakefield, owner of Wakefield Fine Gardens.  The Green Alliance will also be participating in the event showing our support for local farmers and gardeners (of all ages!) and we hope you will partake as well!
