5:30 - 7:30 PM.jpeg)
The UNH Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC) is concerned about the amount of trash that UNH students put into landfills. Students who live on campus throw away around 25 tons of trash per month during the school year and 105 tons during the move-out month of May. To help combat this waste at year's end SEAC is initiating a program called “Trash 2 Treasure.” SEAC will collect usable items that otherwise would end up in landfills, store them over the summer, and hold a 3 day yard sale as students return to campus in late August. This sale will take place on August 26th, 27th, and 28th, 2011. Items will include furniture such as desks, side tables, chairs, couches as well as lamps, microwaves and small dorm size refrigerators.
To help get “Trash 2 Treasure” off the ground SEAC is hosting a fundraising banquet in the MUB at UNH on April 10th. The event will include food from local vendors, a silent auction of goods donated by local environmentally minded businesses. There will also be presentations by Green Alliance Project Director, Sarah Brown, and Kelly Cullen, a UNH professor who furnished her entire home using only used items as well as a showing of Annie Leonard's The Story of Stuff.
