For over 13 Years, WCYY has been Portland’s premier modern rock station, a growing format in radio across the country and in Southern Maine in particular. Portland leads the country for sales of Alternative Rock Music. There is more alternative rock sold in Portland, Maine as a share of total music sales than the bigger cities.

WCYY is famous for free shows, hosting the likes of Rustic Overtones, Jet, Hawthorne Heights, and Story of the Year, as well as sponsoring concert benefits and trip giveaways to events like Dave Matthews, U2, Radiohead, Korn, Live, Greenday, My Chemical Romance, Saliva, Hoobastank, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more.

One of WCYY's newest projects, Locally Grown, features local musicians providing the audience "eco tips" about everything from products to composting and beyond.

WCYY touts a dynamic and informed demographic different than most radio listeners. Studies done by WCYY show that their listeners are:

• · 47% more likely to make between $75,000 - $149,999
• · 109% more likely to have gone hiking in the past year
• · 92% more likely to have participated in environmental causes in past year
• · 78% more likely to own a BlackBerry
• · 77% more likely to shop at Whole Foods Market

Such statistics highlight a demographic more than in-tune with green causes and issues. Going forward, WCYY hopes to help the GA utilize this demographic in order to help it expand further into the Portland area, along the way bringing into the fold more green Business Partners and individual Co-Op members.
