Green Story
Headquartered in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Trailtex is a US company that offers a full range of high quality, technically advanced fabrics and garments. As part of their continuous expansion of their product line, they have developed a variety of recycled, renewable, and organic options for today’s eco-conscious customer.
The company was started by owner Dennis Randall after spending years in New York City attending textile school and working for a clothing designer. The Warehouse Clothing Outlet Store in Portsmouth is one of two outlet stores – the other being in North Conway – both are owned by parent company Trailtex. The outlet stores sell high quality garments and apparel from a number of well-known outerwear brands.
Trailtex manufactures in Asia under a unique business model emphasing “vertical” manufacturing that allows them to conduct every step of their business under one roof -- as opposed to the typical horizontal approach where goods are continually shipped and re-shipped to be cut, dyed, printed, and boxed. According to Randall, such an approach is not only good for business, but good for worker morale as well. “What our operations are really fostering is a sense of teamwork,” says Randall. “Instead of just being one piece of the process and passing the buck along if a product is defective, now it’s you and your brother and sister all responsible for the whole process of the product.”
Included in their ever-expanding line of high quality, durable goods is the new EARTHTEC brand. The line is made from yarn that is made from recycled number one bottles. The EARTHTEC line of product is available in both retail stores and sold nationally.
