Serendipity is full of Fair Trade merchandise and local products. The store in Exeter is one of the oldest establishments in town and owner Brie DeLisi has created a vision for it into the future. Merchandise that is sold includes organic spa products, jewelry, clothing, and various local artists. Many of the products are Fair Trade certified and others donate proceed to worthy causes. For example, Project Have Hope is an organization that allows women in Uganda to make jewelry from calendars. This jewelry, which is Fair Trade certified, is found in Brie’s store where it can be bought and a percentage of the purchase goes back to help these women. Her goods are green because they are Fair Trade and local. Not only do these products provide fair wages for people, but they also decrease the amount of hands that they go through. When these products are being bought directly from the person making it, the amount of energy use is decreased to get from producer to Brie’s shelves. The clothes, spa products, and candles that are found at Serendipity are also made of organic or recycled materials. This makes them more environmentally friendly and eliminates toxins used in production. Brie has developed an interesting variety of merchandise and a concept that is beneficial to the global community at Serendipity of Exeter.
