Having worked at Prelude for close to a decade, in 1998 Holly Landgarten purchased the catchall boutique store, which specializes in unique, locally made, organic, and timeless jewelry, bath and beauty products, and other accessories. Located in the heart of Downtown Portsmouth, Prelude offers a wide range of products – from local soaps and stones to nationally and internationally renowned jewelry, bath and body products, and much more.
Some of the more popular items sold by Prelude include: Photography by Joseph Barnett of Maine; Beautiful jewelry by Kim Burke (also from Maine); Native American silver and turquoise; Italian Cameos; Israeli Roman Glass and Ayala Bar; Russian and Polish amber; and Skagan watches from Denmark.
Meanwhile, bath and body products are prominently feature on Prelude’s shelves, and include: Crabtree and Evelyn bath and body products (made in the U.S.A.); Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products from Germany (certified organic in Europe); Molinard Perfumes; Royall Fragrances from Bermuda; Edwin Jagger shaving products; Mistral soaps; Mason-Pearson Brushes; Blunt umbrellas; Laurent Olivier barrettes; as well as a wide assortment of silk, cashmere, wool, rayon, and cotton scarves, and the largest selection of Burt’ Bees products anywhere in Portsmouth.
Poised to celebrate their 29th year of operation this Spring, Holly Landgarten and the rest of the Prelude team remain committed to offering some of the Seacoast’s most beautiful, unusual, and expertly made items, all under a name that is as uniquely local as the bricks of the building itself.
