Blog : Beat the Heat with the Dairy Bar's Sweets

Spring is in full swing and the UNH Dairy Bar is excited for its busiest season of the year. The UNH Dairy Bar not only has a long history of helping campus students, faculty, and visitors battle the hot weather with sweet treats, but they also strive to provide the most sustainable sandwiches and ice cream available througout the region.

UNH Dining Services took control of the ice cream parlor by the railroad tracks back in 2008, and has worked quite extensively with the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture to help enhance its sustainable efforts. The mixed greens used in the Dairy Bar's salads and sandwiches come exclusively from the high tunnels located on campus and in just a few months, they will be providing fresh strawberries, carrots, onions, and tomatoes.

Roughly 75 percent of the Dairy Bar's supplies are from local sources. All of their chicken is sourced  from Legacy Farms in Barrington, NH, while their cage and hormone-free eggs are from Pete and Gerry's in Monroe. NH Coffee Roasters in Dover brings in the Dairy Bar's fair trade and organic coffee, and Stonyfield Farms from Londonderry provides the Dairy Bar with all natural, organic yogurt.

Of course the main attraction to the Dairy Bar is its ice cream. The Dairy Bar's coolest treats are supplied by Gifford's Famous Ice Cream, one of the purest, hormone free products throughout New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Gifford's is so well known and popular that it has been voted "Ice Cream Grand Champion" three years in a row at the International Berry Exposition.

With a variety of food available, the UNH Dairy Bar has something for everyone.
