The Green Alliance is pleased to announce that Prelude will be renewing their contract with us and continue making strides in the realm of sustainable business practices. Ever since Holly Landgarten first purchased the store in 1998, organic and locally made items have made their way into being the emphasis of this special artisanal store. With their 32nd year of operation set to occur this Spring, Prelude has made a name for itself specializing in unique jewelry of which much is made locally. Jewelers spanning from Southern Maine, Vermont, and right here in Portsmouth are just some of the contributors to Prelude’s expansive jewelry line.

Many of their bath and beauty products also produced locally and include a number of all-natural, organic products. Organic lines include Jenness Farm Soaps from Deerfield, NH, Uncommon Senses Dusting Powders with Lambswool puffs from Dover, N.H., Plum Island Soap Company from Massachusetts, Use Me Hair Products from Portland Maine, and Sea Witch Soaps and Salts from Kittery Maine. Popular brands sold at Prelude include Burt’s Bees, Crabtree and Evelyn, and Edwin Jagger Shaving Products for men and the organic Dr.Hauschka Skin Care, started in 1967 in Germany.

Despite selling specialized products from around the world, specifically in Europe, Prelude is continuing to expand their products toward the local sector and supporting the artistry of those not too far from us. Locality doesn’t just end at their beauty, bath, and jewelry – Red Maple alpaca headbands that are designed in Eliot, Maine are also featured at Prelude. In addition to their contract renewal, Prelude is upgrading their discount with Green Alliance members from 10% off all jewelry to 10% off everything in the store. With Landgarten’s growing dedication in selling organic and local products, we are grateful to once again be affiliated with this distinctive business.
