The Strafford Rivers Conservancy and the Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire will be celebrating their merger at the 12th Annual Fall Foliage Fundraiser with the theme “A Watershed Moment.” The event will take place on Friday, October 24 at 6:00 p.m. at Portsmouth Harbor Events & Conference Center (100 Deer St, Portsmouth).

The Strafford Rivers Conservancy is a nonprofit land trust dedicated to protecting and conserving the natural resources, beauty and character of the land throughout the Strafford County region of New Hampshire. The Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire’s mission is to protect and sustain the land in our community for clean water, fresh food, outdoor recreation, healthy forests and wildlife. The organization has acquired more than 150 properties, totaling in excess of 9,300 acres of land. Both organizations achieve their missions through the promotion and acceptance of conservation easements, education and the acquisition and stewardship of land.

The two nonprofits are excited to be joining forces to create a new Southeast Land Trust to protect an even greater portion of southeastern New Hampshire than was previously possible. At the time of the merge, the new Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire will be responsible for the stewardship and protection of more than 12,000 acres throughout the region.

“This year is extra special because our merged organization now covers 99% of the Great Bay Watershed.” says Isabel Aley, Outreach Coordinator at the Southeast Land Trust of NH. “This means that nearly every drop of water that falls in our territory will end up in the Great Bay - and protecting our region’s water quality is a core piece of our mission.”

The merge of both organizations will result in a stronger, more united voice in conservation, representing more than 30% of the state’s population.

The merged organization will gain efficiencies in administration by eliminating or consolidating duplicative administrative overhead and allocating those savings to their core programs. The boards of both organizations believe that, combined, the new Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire will better monitor and steward their conservation. The unified organization can better withstand potential legal actions by having greater resources available than would be otherwise available to each organization individually.

“Our Fall Fundraiser is the perfect event to celebrate this “Watershed Moment” as we merge with the Strafford Rivers Conservancy.” says Aley. “For one night, our members and partners all come together to support our conservation work and enjoy a great party.” Along those same lines, a number of local sustainability-minded businesses have come together to support the merger and the fundraising event including Little Green Homes,Coastal Home MagazineJenaly Technology GroupChinburg PropertiesSmuttynose Brewing CompanyProgressive Asset Managementand the Green Alliance.

The Fall Foliage Fundraiser will feature a silent auction with over 100 items donated from local businesses, and professional auctioneer, Mark Fodero, who orchestrates the live auction - which includes many exciting items from vacations and sports packages to unique Seacoast offerings! The night will also have live music by Sea Smoke, delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts as well as complimentary beer & wine.
