Zev Yoga is not your typical yoga studio. With a unique approach promoting overall health and well-being, Zev Yoga also offers affordable classes at a lower rate than other yoga studios in the area. Zev's downtown Portsmouth studio also doubles as a space for community events and gatherings bringing together Seacoast residents.

An Artist Reception featuring the work of Hol Mellema will take place from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, October 3, to be followed by a live music performance featuring the Strangled Darlings until 9:30 p.m. The event is one night only and will be an occasion you won’t want to miss.

Hol Mellema focuses on the reclamation of discarded materials to create new art pieces. In the past she has focused on the use of materials such as wood stain, car grease, and grill charcoal to create distinctive works of art that give the discarded materials a new life on canvas. Mellema’s most recent pieces are created from old sales receipts and like the majority of her work, they demonstrate the balance of using otherwise forgotten materials to create a new, beautiful pieces of art.

Stay after the reception for the music of the Strangled Darlings. The interesting duo consists of Jess Anderly and George Veech from Portland, Maine. Anderly and Veech combine elements of folk, jazz, hip-hop, and Americana genres and is inspired by folklore, such as witchcraft from the Civil War, the morality of Somali piracy, and the media impact of Neil Armstrong to craft an inspired sound. Strangled Darlings has worked together to create their style of music since 2009 and is in the process of releasing their fourth studio album. Strangled Darlings sound pairs well with the artwork by Hol Mellema creating an exceptional experience at the Zev Yoga Studio.

Jonas Amberger founded Zev Yoga in 2006 and has since expanded the business to three locations in Portsmouth, Dover, and most recently, Exeter. He focuses on the Ashtanga yoga method, emphasizing a calm mind, light and strong body, and better circulation. In addition, Amberger received a degree in Ayurvedic medicine from the Sanskrit University in India and practices this holistic healing system with his clients at the studio. Amberger's extensive experience makes the studio space a special place for community members to practice yoga and doubles as a community gathering location for events, classes and art gallery.

The evening's event will be held at Zev Yoga's Portsmouth studio located at 16 Market Square (above Breaking New Grounds cafe). Be sure to add it to your calendar and stop by for an exceptional night of art and music!
