Tomorrow Smuttynose Brewery will release their new Smuttlabs creation, Schmutzig, it will be available in the Smerch Store at the Towle Farm brewery at 10 a.m.! Schmutzig (6% abv) is a creative mix between hefeweizen yeast and Sterling and Crystal hops. With a hoppy IPA flavor and a delicious Bavarian influence this is a new flavor like nothing before.

Each 375 ml bottle is $6 and the brewery currently has 50 cases for sale. There will be tasters available at the Towle Farm brewery to enjoy before purchasing. The Schmutzig will ship to all Smuttynose markets on Monday August 25. As a 100 barrel batch this new flavor will be arriving at more bars than ever before! Stay tuned for Smuttlabs next release, the Oak-aged Belgian-style Tripel.

Smuttynose first made its mark brewing out of their original Portsmouth-based facility before moving to a much larger brewery in Hampton this spring. Visitors can tour the new facility located at 105 Towle Farm Road to learn all about Smuttynose's sustainability initiatives and brewing practices. The Hampton facility was built on farmland featuring a pre-Civil War barn, two carriage houses and a ninteenth century farm house, which was moved 85 yards from its original placement. The farmhouse will become a restaurant featuring dishes inspired by the slow-food movement and is set to open this fall.

The new facility offers the brewery 60,000 to 65,000 barrels of capacity - that's roughly between 15 to 16 million pints - depending on brand and mix and also allows for potential growth to 120,000 barrels. All that space provides Smuttynose's brewers the leg room to stretch out and experiment with their Smuttlabs brews. It also features LED-lit on demand lighting, lots of windows and solar tubes for ample light. The move from the old facility has also enabled Smuttynose to reduce their air compressor size by half and should be able to save six million kWh during its lifetime. Other sustainable additions in the new facility include reused and recycled materials, storm water treatment systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), a heat recovery chiller and more.
