The Green Alliance is celebrating The Green Families Club second birthday this August. On Wednesday, August 27th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Kittery Farmer’s Market, the Green Alliance will be hosting a Green Families Celebration and Farmers Market with special community guest and beneficiary, The Footprints Food Pantry.

Green Alliance businesses will have booths with family-friendly, hands-on activities and goodies for kids to enjoy. Kids can design a t-shirt with the winner’s design being printed as a t-shirt in a contest hosted by Get it Going! Or, stop by the Coca-Cola booth for free samples and a demonstration on their extensive recycling program. Get your family together for a free, fun portrait by Lenka Flaherty Photography! Check out the many more booths with great activities, too!

Additionally the Kittery regular farmers market will be happening at the same time. So celebrants can do their food shopping while enjoying live music and interactive booths. From local organic greens to homemade natural soaps the Kittery Farmers Market has something for everyone.

And this collaborative event has a special community beneficiary; Footprints Food Pantry. We’ve all heard of carbon footprints but Footprints Food Pantry in Kittery is leaving a different kind of footprint in the communities of Kittery, Kittery Point, and Elliot. Footprints Food Pantry will be the honorary non-profit for Green Alliance’s Green Families celebration.

Footprints offers support to resident members of Kittery, Kittery Point and Elliot whose financial resources are not sufficient to meet their basic needs. Income qualified residents receive a free four day supply of groceries and personal care items once every seven days.

“I’ve seen the good Footprints Food Pantry has done for the surrounding Kittery area,” said GA director and Kittery resident Sarah Brown. “I believe the efforts of Footprints are truly leaving positive footprints in this area.”

This non-profit organization that is heavily dependent on the surrounding community of Kittery. Funds are primarily raised through donations, grants, memorial gifts, and money jars at local area businesses. Their motto, “community people helping people in the community” demonstrates the important role donations and volunteers play in this non-profit.

Donations are constantly in demand and always appreciated. Monetary donations can be mailed directly to Footprints Food Pantry Inc. P.O. Box 246 Kittery, ME 03904. Food donations are accepted Tuesdays 8:30- 10:30 am and Wednesdays 9:30 am to 2:00 pm, or by calling 207-439-4673 to make an appointment.

A few items that are always needed include, but are not limited to: Peanut butter, ramen noodles, canned pasta, canned “hearty” soups, canned fruits, diapers, dog and cat food, and canned vegetables.

Footprints will have a booth set up at the Green Families Celebration on August 27th working to further educate and advocate the surrounding community. The booth will also act as a collection spot for those who would like to donate non-perishables or make a monetary donation.

The true backbone of Footprints Food Pantry is the volunteers that make it all possible, a community of almost 40 volunteers, with the common goal to better the less fortunate in their community. For more information on volunteering, click here.

Those attending the Green Families Celebration are encouraged to donate funds or non-perishables. Those who donate $20 or more in monetary donations will receive a thank you gift from the Green Alliance.

The GA invites all families to join us in this celebration on August 27th from 4-7 at the Kittery Farmer’s Market and don’t forget to bring your Footprints food donation!
