Blog : Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity ReStore Helps Homeowners Make Cost-Effective Repairs

By Magill | Jun 20, 2014 | in

Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity ReStore provides locals with the opportunity to purchase and recycle home materials for building projects. Building materials, including kitchen cabinets to appliances, are available at a low cost. Proceeds from these sales go to building economically and ecologically sound homes for local low-income families in the seacoast area. All materials sold by Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity Restore are in working condition and are sold at 30 - 80% off, making it the perfect location to purchase building items for restoration projects. By using materials from Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore program the community keeps building items out of the landfill and save energy that would be used to manufacture new materials.

The houses built by Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity ReStore are modest conventional homes made of partially recycled materials, making them affordable for families that are unable to finance the expensive housing typically found in the seacoast.  The ReStore program continues to partner with the low-income families by offering families a monthly no-interest mortgage.  Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity ReStore shows a commitment to housing that assists families from the building stages to the final mortgage payment.

In addition to providing the Seacoast with affordable housing, Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity ReStore works with an international partner in Costa Rica. They began working with the general Habitat for Humanity International program, giving 10% of their donations, which allowed for the construction of over 25 homes. Then in 2009, they decided to partner with a specific program, Habitat for Humanity Costa Rica, to become more involved with their international partnership.  So far the program has served 449 families this year by building and repairing over 1,000 homes!

Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity ReStore has shown great efforts to better the lives of our neighbors along with Costa Rican communities.  To learn more about their work, visit their website here
