Great Bay Stewardhas a mission to protect and preserve the Great Bay estuarine system through education, land protection, research and care of the Great Bay. They have established a National Estuarine Research Reserve as a place to educate, research, and provide resource protection. This reserve includes the Great Bay Estuary (4,500 acres of tidal waters and wetlands) and about 12,000 additional acres of multi-use land. Great Bay Stewards has also converted former Pease Air Force base land into a National Wildlife Refuge. Also, they developed the Great Bay Discovery Center for Great Bay education programs. They attain these goals through working with other organizations, educational programs and holding recreational/cultural events and informing current members.

Great Bay Stewards are currently holding a kayak raffle for a 2014 Wilderness Systems Kayak Pungo 120, provided by Eastern Mountain Sports. You can purchase tickets here or at the Great Bay Discovery Center! Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. This drawing will be held on June 26th.

Soak Up the Rain is an event being held on June 21 at the Discovery Center. This storm water program protects and restores clean water to local lakes, streams, and estuaries. More information about Soak Up the Rain can be found here. Participants that attend this event can view a nearby rain garden installation.  This will allow for better understanding of stormwater runoff management.  Are you a Do-It-Yourselfer?  This project, can reduce your stormwater foot print at your property!  The Soak Up the Rain event runs from 10 a.m. to noon.
