Blog : Calling all Green Thumbs!

By Amanda | Jun 18, 2014 | in

Food pantries across the country are continuously working to help feed the thousands of Americans that are food insecure. However, there is no denying the lack of fresh produce available at pantries across the country. This growing season New Roots Farm and Seacoast Eat Local are teaming up to bring more fresh produce to local food pantries across the Seacoast, but they can’t do it without your help!

If you have a green thumb and a little extra gardening space, New Roots Farm and Seacoast Eat Local are looking for gardening partners like you. You can help in three easy steps:

Step One: Pick up FREE seedlings or seeds at New Roots Farm in Newmarket Friday, June 20 from 2-6 PM.

Step Two: Plant container, row, or beds dedicated for donation to a local pantry.

Step Three: Gather and drop harvest at a summer farmers’ market in Dover, Exeter, or Portsmouth for distribution to local food pantries. Alternatively, you can coordinate with your local pantry for drop off times.

Over 2,000 pounds of food were donated to local pantries over the winter market season. New Roots Farm and Seacoast Eat Local are aiming to increase this number with help from Seacoast community members like you!
