There are many perks to living near the water. One of those is sailing. Being able to travel over the water and take in the many beauties bestowed before you is something everyone should be able to experience. That is why the Gundalow Company is where you should turn for all of your sailing needs.

When working with the Gundalow Company, there are many different sailing options you can explore. From Memorial Day until late-October, the Gundalow sails seven days a week and offers seven sail types, along with two special sunset sails.

The Mid-Day sail goes from 12-2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Discover the beautiful sights of the Piscataqua River aboard the self-titled Piscataqua, a boat that mimics the historical build of past gundalows. Feel free to bring a picnic to enjoy while you sail.

For a more educational sail, there is the Discovery sail. From 3-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, sail with the Gundalow Company and learn about topics ranging from marine life and water quality to navigation. This is a great way to learn about the natural history around you through complete immersion.

A great way to unwind after a long day is the Sunset sail. Every evening from 6-8 p.m. sit back and watch the sun set over the water. This is another opportunity to bring a picnic to enjoy while the sun sets.

Pause the Saturday morning cartoons and bring the kids to the Saturday morning sail. The sail lasts from 10 a.m. to noon and the best part is, kids sail free! All ages are welcome and any child under 13 can sail for no charge with a paying adult.

If you don’t have enough time for a full sail do not worry, you don’t have to miss out. With the Weekend Afternoon Special, you can still experience a nice and beautiful sail on the river but it only lasts an hour and fifteen minutes.

The Up-River Sail on Sunday’s, is a unique sail you will be sure to enjoy. Lasting three hours, this route takes you under the three Portsmouth bridges, allowing you to pass by Kittery, Newington, and Elliot.

The last regular offer is the Open Ship. Though this is not a sail, it is still a fun event to participate in. With the Open Ship, you can tour the gundalow, Piscataqua. This event is open to the public and welcome to all ages. This dockside tour takes place at the Prescott Park dock from 12-3 p.m. and is also open to donation to help support the educational programs.

Along with those various sails, there are two special offers. The first is a Contemporary Coastal Issues Sunset Sail which happen on Wednesday evenings and feature guest speakers from around the region. Thanks to the support of the New Hampshire Coastal Program, RBC Wealth Management and Smuttynose brewery, the Gundalow Company can offer special lowered prices on this event. The second special event is the Sunset Concert Sail which is held on Thursday evenings and features local musicians.

With these many offers, The Gundalow Company, a nonprofit founded in 2002, fulfills its goal of connecting residents of the Seacoast and beyond with this historic icon of river commerce, while instilling a sense of environmental stewardship for the Piscataqua region’s cherished waterways
