Blog : A Perfect Move jumps at chance to donate to Kittery Community Auction
A Perfect Move supports all kinds of charitable causes, but when company principal Genevieve Benton got an email from Jeremy Paul of the Kittery Rec Department asking local organizations and businesses to sponsor or donate to their 4th Annual Kittery Community Auction, she didn't have to think twice. As a Kittery resident herself, Genevieve knows first hand what a great job the Rec Center does providing programing for people of all ages.
“I'm a huge supporter of the Kittery Rec Department,” says Genevieve. “They provide services for a broad spectrum of people and their programming is just amazing. I want to make sure we keep our families active, and giving back to the rec center is a great way to encourage that.”
As a second generation family owned and operated moving company, A Perfect Move has always been committed to supporting the local community. In addition to providing a wide range of services to make every stage of the moving process run smoothly, APM operates a non-profit repurposing store that gives to local charities 100% of the profits earned by selling furniture and other materials donated by customers and community members. On top of this operation, APM hosts a variety of events each year to benefit local charities and nonprofits. This past year they hosted fifteen such events.
For A Perfect Move, the connection between community life and business just comes naturally. “When we were looking for a place to set up our company, we decided to settle in Kittery Point with both our family and our business,” says Genevieve. “We like working where we live so we can have the biggest possible positive impact on our community.”
But APM's list of good deeds doesn't end with community outreach. The business is also committed to sustainability. They offer recycled packaging for all clients and bring anything customers wish to donate to local outlets free of charge, thereby diverting tons of material from landfills. They also recycle all paper products used in the office.
These green efforts have led A Perfect Move to become a business partner of the Green Alliance, a green business union and consumer's coop. The Green Alliance works to connect green-minded consumers with local businesses who share their values, and is committed to educating the community about matters of sustainability. The GA also emphasizes how charitable outreach like that of APM is a vital part of sustainability because it strengthens the local community.
The Green Alliance was also one of the businesses included in Jeremy Paul's email about the Kittery Community Auction. GA owner Sarah Brown responded to the email, copying her reply to all the other business and organization leaders, and offering to donate a Green Alliance membership to the auction. Genevieve was impressed. “Sarah's response was almost immediate, and I thought, 'I like her style,'” says Genevieve. “So I answered right away, and copied everyone on the email as Sarah had done, so that our donations can spark a response from others.”
As usual, A Perfect Move found a way to use the strength of the community to affect positive change. Keeping all potential donors and sponsors in the loop allows those who do good to challenge others to do good as well. The quick replies from both Genevieve Benton and Sarah Brown will show other businesses and organizations that the Kittery Community Auction is a great cause, and the opportunity to support it is one to jump at.
