Blog : Register for the "Lean & Green" Awards ceremony, 9/14/2010, Portsmouth Harbor Events & Conference Ctr.

We're just about 2 weeks away from Business NH Magazine's 2010 "Lean and Green Awards" ceremony on Tuesday. September 14 from 8:00 - 10:00 AM at the Portsmouth Harbor Events & Conference Center. The awards categories include "Green Product", "Green Building", "Small Process" and "Large Process", "Nonprofit Large Process", and "Early Adopter" awards.
All awards recognize the best environmental practices NH companies have undertaken to be more environmentally sound and cost-efficient. This year’s judges possess significant expertise on integrating sustainability into business practices, including Alison Degan, co-owner of Acorn Organic Salon in Dover, which earned the 2009 Lean & Green Micro Company Practices Award! Acorn Organic Salon is also a proud member of the Green Alliance (a proud platinum sponsor of the Lean and Green Awards), and offers 20% off all salon services to Green Card holders.
While the benefits of going green act as an effective marketing and branding tool for business, many small business owners are less aware of how much money they can save through green practices such as increased energy efficiency, reduced waste disposal costs, and green building measures. For example, Newmarket International, a global leader in hospitality group sales and distribution automation, has achieved annual savings of $60,000 due to its sustainable business practices.
The event itself will be a terrific educational experience, as Cameron Wake, research associate professor at UNH, and director of Carbon Solutions New England, will deliver the keynote speech on NH’s environmental challenges and possible solutions.
