What is Green Drinks?
No green beer here. Green Drinks is a great opportunity to meet new people and catch up with old friends. Each month the event is hosted by a new guest speaker who leads a discussion on a social or environmental issue. People from a wide variety of backgrounds attend including non-profit, for-profit, government, law, finance, writing, publishing, fund raising, graphic design, business, academia, energy, the arts…the bottom line is that everyone is welcome! So make a note in your calendar and invite friends along. The purpose of Green Drinks is primarily FUN, but the events also enable people to: share new ideas, develop inspired solutions, learn about opportunities to work for change and to make a difference, discuss the state of the world…Green Drinks can be whatever you want it to be. Where is Green Drinks?
Portsmouth Green Drinks has its green home at 2 Ceres Street. Owners of Poco's Bow Street Cantina, John and Marlisa Golumb, used low-VOC paint, a compressed cardboard counter top for the bar, reclaimed wood, and a floor made out of recyced plastic milk bottles in the construction of this hip new martini bar. They also serve a selection of organic and locally brewed beer.
When is Green Drinks?
The next Green Drinks will be Thursday September 17th and every month on third Thursday.
Who are the presenters?
Join four of the Seacoast’s most influential women at this month’s Green Drinks:
Sarah Brown, Project Director, Green Alliance: Sarah Brown has been an environmental advocate in her community for the last 10 years. She has served on Kittery's Town Council and the Zoning Board of Appeals. Sarah created Kittery Progressive Action, a community action coalition which responds to and organizes around, progressive issues in Kittery, Southern Maine and Portsmouth. She also formed St. John's Stewardship of the Earth Committee in Portsmouth; a group which educates the Seacoast community on environmental issues.
Julia Dundorf, Program Director, NH Carbon Challenge: Julia Dundorf recently joined the staff of Clean Air-Cool Planet (CA-CP), a Portsmouth-based nonprofit dedicated to finding and promoting solutions to global warming nationally. As CA-CP’s Community Relations Manager, Julia assists the burgeoning local energy committees across the region and also co-directs The New England Carbon ChallengeTM (NECC), formerly the NH Carbon Challenge.
Michelle Veasey, Program Manager, NH Sustainable Lodging and Restaurant Program: Michelle Veasey is the Manager of New Hampshire Lodging and Restaurant Association's Sustainable Lodging & Restaurant Program. She works with lodgings and restaurants across the state to improve energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction and to encourage the promotion of environmentally sensitive initiatives to guests, potential guests and employees.
Andrea O’Brien, Environment Program Manager, NH Small Business Development Center: Andrea O'Brien has been working with business and industry in the environmental regulatory and compliance field for the last 25 years. She has developed waste management strategies for a
fortune 500 company. She has extensive experience in determining environmental liability through her work while at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the NH Dept. of EnvironmentalServices and as a consultant for many financial institution requiring environmental assessments on non-performing loan portfolios.
