Blog : Crescent Snow & Ice Management receives SIMA "Excellence in Business Award"
On Thursday June 25, 2009 while attending the Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA) awards banquet in Louisville, Kentucky, Crescent Snow & Ice Management Services was presented the “Excellence in Business” award. The SIMA “Excellence in Business” award is granted to a company on the basis of demonstrated success in the following competencies; business practices, customer satisfaction, community relations, and accountability.
Crescent has taken many steps to pave the way for the plowing industry in sustainability. They run all of their diesel trucks with Simply Green Biofuel and have recently decided to start using “Magic Salt”, which is a by-product of the beer brewing process. It will cut down the use of magnesium chloride (salt) by 50%, reducing the environmental impact of melters substantially. Crescent is also focused on efficiency, by using electric spreaders rather than gas spreaders; they’ve cut down on emissions, cost and salt usage. Crescent also uses push-box plows that are almost twice the size of a regular plow. This affords them more time at other sites and also cuts down on emissions pollution.
Jessi and Dean, owners of Crescent are always looking at new ways to make their company more sustainable. Through SIMA and their personal motivation to become a more environmentally conscious company they will keep evolving into one of the most sustainable plowing companies in the country.
